Everything old is new again

Finding Chanukah gifts for all ages, part II

by Ladye P. Sparks

Associate Editor, DJW

It's really hard to know what Chanukah gifts to buy for other people's children. There are so many new toys and games, and many of them are questionable as to content and effect.

If you're close enough to these kids, ask them or their parents what single thing they're most interested in. Little girls usually love dolls or toys; little boys opt for trucks or cars. Older girls sometimes like jewelry; older boys might be interested in original radios or trains.

A nudge from you can start old and young on a lifetime hobby. There are older dolls that don't quite make the antique designation, but are old enough to be fascinating. Toy trucks are more detailed and longer-lasting than modern toys. Costume jewelry can be exciting accents to today's clothes. And boys of ALL ages (up to about 45) love trains.

If you find a store with a wide array of possibles, ask about a gift certificate and arrange a trip after the holidays to redeem it.

This list continues the list begun in the Nov. 7 issue.
